Target Information

The CDKN2C gene encodes a member of the INK4 family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors. This protein interacts with CDK4 or CDK6 to inhibit kinase activation, functioning as a cell growth regulator controlling G1 phase progression.
Ectopic expression suppresses cell growth correlated with wild-type RB1 function. Knockout mouse studies indicate roles in spermatogenesis regulation and tumorigenesis suppression.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding an identical protein have been reported.
