Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. These structures compact DNA into chromatin, limiting accessibility to transcription, repair, and replication machinery. Histones play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability. H2B also exhibits broad antibacterial activity.
