Cystic Fibrosis (CF)는 CFTR 유전자의 돌연변이에 의해 발생하는 대표적인 치명적 유전 질환으로, cAMP에 의해 조절되는 염화물 채널 기능 이상을 유발합니다. 전체 CF 사례 중 약 70%는 508번 위치의 페닐알라닌 결실(delta F508) 돌연변이를 공유하며, 이는 비정상적인 염화물 이온 수송을 초래합니다. CF 돌연변이는 주로 폐 및 간 질환으로 인해 치명적이지만, Salmonella typhi가 CFTR을 이용해 장 상피세포에 침투한다는 보고가 있으며, delta F508 변이를 가진 생쥐에서는 S. typhi의 장 점막하 흡수가 크게 감소함이 관찰되었습니다.
