Target Information
Histones are essential in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental events. Histone acetylation/deacetylation modifies chromatin structure and influences transcription factor access to DNA.
HDAC3, a member of the histone deacetylase/acuc/apha family, exhibits histone deacetylase activity and represses transcription when tethered to a promoter. It may regulate transcription through interaction with the zinc-finger transcription factor YY1 and can down-regulate p53 function, modulating cell growth and apoptosis. HDAC3 is considered a potential tumor suppressor gene.
