Target Information
Copper (Cu) is an essential trace metal acting as a cofactor for many enzymes in mammalian cells. Disorders such as Menkes disease and Wilson disease result from disrupted Cu homeostasis. CTR1 is a high-affinity copper uptake protein; its C-terminal domain resembles the Raf kinase family, while the N-terminal region encodes a novel domain. CTR1 is the primary route for copper uptake in mammalian cells, influencing Cu balance and embryonic development.
