Product Description

Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1) is a member of the Herpesviridae family and has a large double-stranded DNA genome. HSVs are primarily transmitted by sexual contact, direct contact with lesions, or perinatally. Most HSV-positive cases exhibit lesions on the skin and mucous membranes of the mouth and genitals. Infections may be primary or recurrent, with over 90% of primary infections being asymptomatic. Primary infection with HSV-1 can cause gingivostomatitis, eczema herpeticum, keratoconjunctivitis, and encephalitis. Secondary infections typically manifest as skin lesions around the nose, mouth, and genital regions. The infection is contagious, especially during outbreaks.

Storage Conditions

The HSV-1 TaqMan PCR Kit Dx is shipped on dry ice. Upon arrival, all components should be frozen at -20°C.
Avoid repeated thawing and freezing (>3 times) of the Master Mix and Positive Control. For intermittent use, aliquot and store frozen.
