Target Information
Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 18 (TNFRSF18), also known as GITR or AITR, is encoded by the TNFRSF18 gene located at 1p36.33. This receptor, part of the TNF-receptor superfamily, shows increased expression upon T-cell activation and plays a key role in maintaining immunological self-tolerance via CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells. Knockout studies in mice suggest its involvement in CD3-driven T-cell activation and programmed cell death. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
