Target Information

CD63 (LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a glycoprotein of the tetraspanin family found in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles of various cell types. It is also present on the plasma membrane following cell activation and serves as a basophil activation marker.

CD63 interacts with integrins, affects phagocytosis and cell migration, and is involved in H/K-ATPase trafficking and regulation of ROMK1 channels. It functions as a T-cell costimulatory molecule and its expression can be used for predicting prognosis in early-stage carcinomas.

CD63 is expressed on activated platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes, B, and T cells. It is identical to the melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and platelet antigen PTLGP40. Diseases associated with CD63 dysfunction include melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
