This antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by epitope-specific immunogen affinity chromatography. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
B4GALT2 is a type II membrane-bound glycoprotein that specifically utilizes UDP-galactose as a donor substrate. It transfers galactose in a β1,4 linkage to acceptor sugars such as GlcNAc, Glc, and Xyl. Each β4GalT enzyme participates in the biosynthesis of distinct glycoconjugates and saccharide structures.
These proteins possess an N-terminal hydrophobic signal sequence that directs them to the Golgi apparatus, where it remains as a transmembrane anchor.
Based on sequence similarity, β4GalTs are grouped as follows:
- β4GalT1 and β4GalT2
- β4GalT3 and β4GalT4
- β4GalT5 and β4GalT6
- β4GalT7
The enzyme synthesizes N-acetyllactosamine in glycolipids and glycoproteins. Its substrate specificity is modulated by α-lactalbumin, though it is not expressed in lactating mammary tissue.
