Target Information
ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and play key roles in the regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells. These kinases are activated by various stimuli such as growth factors, cytokines, viral infections, and G protein-coupled receptor ligands. Activation occurs through a cascade involving Ras, Raf, and MEK1/2, leading to phosphorylation of ERK1/2. Activated ERKs can phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or translocate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors including c-Fos and Elk-1.
