Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory component of myosin phosphatase that modulates actin–myosin interactions downstream of Rho GTPase signaling.
RhoA in its active, GTP-bound form interacts with MYPT1 to regulate myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation, influencing smooth muscle contraction and cytoskeletal dynamics in nonmuscle cells.
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase) phosphorylates and inactivates MYPT1, reducing phosphatase activity. Overexpression or activation of RhoA increases phosphorylation of both MYPT1 and MLC.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms of MYPT1 have been identified.
