Description:
Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is a heterodimeric 70 kDa (p70) cytokine composed of two covalently linked, glycosylated chains: 40 kDa (p40) and 35 kDa (p35). It is mainly produced by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells in response to bacterial products such as LPS, intracellular pathogens, or activated T cells.
IL-12 induces interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) production, cell proliferation, and cytotoxicity mediated by NK and T cells, and plays a key role in Th1 response development, leading to IFN-γ and IL-2 production, promoting T-cell responses and macrophage activation.

eBioscience recombinant mouse IL-12 p70 is produced in baculovirus-infected insect cells as an authentic heterodimer of p35 and p40 subunits using a dual promoter expression system. It differs from pseudo-heterodimeric forms linked by artificial linkers.

Applications Reported: Recombinant mouse IL-12 p70 is biologically active.
Applications Tested: The ED50, measured by IFN-γ induction assay in mouse splenocytes, ≤175 pg/mL, corresponding to ≥5.7 × 10⁶ Units/mg.

Source: Insect cells infected with baculovirus co-expressing mouse p40 (Met1–Ser335, NM_008352) and mouse p35 (Met1–Ala215, NM_008351).
