Target Information
STING is a 379-amino-acid signaling protein that plays a critical role in innate immune signaling. It activates NF-κB and IRF3 transcription pathways, inducing type I interferons (IFN-α and IFN-β) and promoting antiviral responses.
STING may also participate in translocon function and apoptotic signal transduction via its association with MHC-II. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, and mediates death signaling through ERK pathway activation.
Typically localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, STING is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
