Background
Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily I member 2 (OR8I2) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses leading to smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family and share a seven-transmembrane domain structure common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, with nomenclature independent across species.
