Background
This gene encodes a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) that belongs to the rhoGAP family, which regulates small GTP-binding proteins. GAP family proteins are involved in signaling pathways controlling cytoskeletal organization. This gene acts as a tumor suppressor in multiple cancers, including prostate, lung, colorectal, and breast cancers. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative promoters and splicing (RefSeq, Apr 2010).
