Background
The protein encoded by the CD93 gene is a cell-surface glycoprotein and type I membrane protein originally identified as a myeloid cell-specific marker. Although previously thought to be a receptor for C1q, it is now considered to be involved in intercellular adhesion and apoptotic cell clearance. The intracellular cytoplasmic tail interacts with moesin, which links transmembrane proteins to the cytoskeleton and plays a role in cytoskeletal remodeling.
