This antibody detects upregulation of HIF-1α in hypoxic samples.

Target Information
HIF1-alpha (HIF1A) is a subunit of HIF1, a transcription factor found in mammalian cells under reduced oxygen tension.
HIF-1 is a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta subunits, both belonging to the basic helix-loop-helix PAS family of transcription factors.
Under hypoxic conditions, HIF-1 activates transcription of over 40 genes including erythropoietin, glucose transporters, glycolytic enzymes, and VEGF.
HIF1-alpha regulates hypoxia-mediated apoptosis, cell proliferation, and tumor angiogenesis.
It interacts with p53 and is involved in MDM2-mediated ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation.
In humans, HIF1A is located on chromosome 14q.
The C-terminal of HIF1A binds to p300, forming complexes that induce hypoxia-responsive genes.
Hypoxia contributes to diseases such as myocardial and cerebral ischemia, cancer, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease, and COPD.
