Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that functions to either inhibit or promote cell death. Members of the BCL-2 family can dimerize to modulate apoptosis. For example, Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2 to enhance its anti-apoptotic effect. Bax and Bak promote cytochrome c release from mitochondria and initiate apoptosis. Overexpression or translocation of BCL-2 is associated with follicular lymphoma, where neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of BCL-2 alpha protein. Two transcript variants of BCL-2, produced by alternative splicing, differ at their C-terminal ends. Overexpression of BCL-2 has been linked to human cancers including B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer.
