Reconstitution: Reconstituted EGF should be aliquoted and stored in polypropylene vials and is stable at -5°C to -20°C for up to two months. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Stability of dilute solutions of EGF may be prolonged by addition of bovine serum albumin to a final concentration of 1.0%.

Target Information

EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) binds to the EGF receptor (EGFR), a 170 kDa protein kinase. Activation of EGFR initiates multiple cellular pathways in response to environmental stimuli or ligand binding. The receptor forms homo- or heterodimers, each activating distinct signaling cascades via SH2-containing effector proteins.
EGF is expressed in kidney, cerebrum, prostate, and salivary glands, acting as a potent mitogenic factor. The phosphorylated receptor recruits adapter proteins such as GRB2, triggering downstream pathways including RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK, PI3K-AKT, PLCγ-PKC, and STAT.
Research suggests EGF may also activate the NF-κB signaling cascade. Mutations in the EGF gene are linked to hypomagnesemia type 4, and dysregulation is associated with certain cancers.
