Target Information

GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.

Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH is ubiquitously expressed and participates in diverse cellular processes such as DNA replication, repair, RNA export, membrane fusion, and microtubule bundling. It also plays roles in apoptosis and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease through interactions with amyloid precursor protein and Huntingtin. Due to its high expression in most tissues, GAPDH is widely used as a protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
