Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD41 (GPIIb), a transmembrane glycoprotein of the integrin family composed of two chains: GPIIb alpha (120 kDa) and GPIIb beta (23 kDa). CD41 is mainly expressed on platelets and megakaryocytes.
Target Information
CD41 (platelet glycoprotein IIb, ITGA2B) consists of two subunits (120 kDa alpha and 23 kDa beta) that form a functional adhesive protein receptor with CD61 in the presence of calcium. CD41 mediates platelet aggregation and binds to proteins such as von Willebrand factor, fibrinogen, fibronectin, and vitronectin upon vascular injury. It is primarily expressed in the megakaryocyte-platelet lineage and during early hematopoietic differentiation.
Diseases associated with CD41 dysfunction include Glanzmann Thrombasthenia and Platelet type-16 bleeding disorder.
