Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the large DEAD-box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif and ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity. It exhibits high RNA-independent ATPase activity and is stimulated by both RNA and DNA.
This protein functions in both nucleus and cytoplasm, participating in:

  • Transcriptional regulation
  • mRNP assembly
  • Pre-mRNA splicing
  • mRNA export
  • Translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication

Misregulation of this gene has been implicated in tumorigenesis. A paralog exists on the Y chromosome, and pseudogenes are found on chromosomes 4 and X. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
