Product Specific Information

The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by most thymocytes and a subset of mature T-helper cells, as well as at low levels on monocytes. CD4 acts as a receptor for HIV. The OKT4 antibody recognizes a different epitope than RPA-T4 and does not cross-block binding.

Applications Reported: Suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and validated using normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test (100 µL final volume, 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).
Excitation: 488 nm; Emission: 520 nm; Laser: Blue Laser.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in MHC class II recognition and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T-helper lymphocytes but can also be found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue-level expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 is essential for early T-cell activation through its association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase. It may also mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
