Target Information
CD235a (Glycophorin A, GPA) is a single-pass membrane sialoglycoprotein expressed in mature erythrocytes and erythroid precursor cells.
It is the carrier of blood group M and N specificities and provides cells with a large mucin-like domain that may serve as a barrier to cell fusion, minimizing aggregation between red blood cells in circulation.
CD235a has been shown to act as a receptor for Sandei virus, parvovirus, and Hsa, a Streptococcus adhesin.
