Target Information

This gene encodes coagulation factor III, a cell surface glycoprotein that enables cells to initiate the blood coagulation cascade. It functions as a high-affinity receptor for coagulation factor VII. The resulting complex catalyzes the initiation of the coagulation protease cascades by specific limited proteolysis. Unlike other cofactors that circulate as nonfunctional precursors, this factor is fully functional when expressed on cell surfaces. It contains three distinct domains: extracellular, transmembrane, and cytoplasmic. No congenital deficiency of this factor has been described.
