Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory component controlling actin–myosin interactions downstream of Rho GTPase signaling. Active RhoA interacts with MYPT1 and modulates myosin light chain phosphorylation through Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), influencing smooth muscle contraction and nonmuscle cell motility. Overexpression or activation of RhoA increases phosphorylation of MYPT1 and MLC, thereby inhibiting myosin phosphatase activity. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
