Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase. This enzyme regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the small GTPase Rho.
Active GTP-bound RhoA interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) of myosin phosphatase, controlling the phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC).
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP-RhoA, phosphorylates MBS and inactivates myosin phosphatase. Overexpression of RhoA or activated RhoA in NIH 3T3 cells increases phosphorylation of MBS and MLC, suggesting Rho inhibits myosin phosphatase through Rho-kinase activity.
Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
