Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a component of the myosin phosphatase complex. This enzyme regulates actin–myosin interactions downstream of Rho GTPase signaling. Activated RhoA interacts with MYPT1, modulating myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation and smooth muscle contraction. Rho-associated kinase phosphorylates MYPT1, leading to inhibition of myosin phosphatase activity. Overexpression of RhoA increases phosphorylation of MYPT1 and MLC, indicating a regulatory role in cytoskeletal dynamics. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
