Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase.
Myosin phosphatase regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the guanosine triphosphatase Rho.
The active form of RhoA (GTP-RhoA) interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) of myosin phosphatase, regulating MLC phosphorylation.
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP-RhoA, phosphorylates MBS and inactivates myosin phosphatase.
Overexpression of RhoA or activated RhoA increases phosphorylation of MBS and MLC, indicating Rho inhibits myosin phosphatase via Rho-kinase.
Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
