Target Information

Calbindin-D-28K (also known as vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein or cholecalcin) is a 28 kDa calcium-binding protein with broad tissue distribution. It belongs to a family of low molecular weight calcium-binding proteins (CaBPs) such as calmodulin, S-100, parvalbumin, and troponin C, which share EF-hand motifs for Ca²⁺ binding.

Calbindin-D-28K is predominantly expressed in specific neuronal subpopulations of the central and peripheral nervous systems and in epithelial cells involved in calcium transport, such as distal tubular and cortical collecting tubule cells of the kidney, and enteric neuroendocrine cells.
