Target Information

The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known regulators of programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their death repressor activity. Its proapoptotic function is regulated through phosphorylation by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and by dephosphorylation via calcineurin. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
