Target Information
ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and play essential roles in regulating meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells. These kinases are activated by various stimuli, including growth factors, cytokines, viral infections, and GPCR ligands. Activation involves a cascade where Ras activates Raf, which phosphorylates MEK1/2, subsequently activating ERK1/2 through phosphorylation. Once activated, ERKs phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or translocate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors such as c-Fos and Elk-1.
