Target Information

MMP3 (stromelysin-1) belongs to the peptidase M10A subfamily. It is secreted as a pro-protein and activated by extracellular proteinase cleavage. MMP3 binds zinc and calcium ions and exhibits metallo-endopeptidase activity. The active enzyme degrades collagen, gelatin, fibronectin, and laminin, playing roles in wound repair and tissue remodeling. Mutations in this gene may lead to coronary heart disease 6.
