Target Information

POU5F1, also known as Oct-4, is a maternally expressed octamer-binding protein and the first transcription factor identified in early development. It plays a crucial role in embryogenesis and the generation of stem cells.
POU5F1 expression, along with Sox2, Klf4, Lin28, and c-Myc, enables the creation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from somatic cells. Recent studies show that iPS cells can be generated using expression plasmids, eliminating viral vectors and improving safety for regenerative medicine applications.
