Target Information

CD10 (Common Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia Antigen, CALLA) is a cell surface enzyme with neutral metalloendopeptidase activity that inactivates a variety of biologically active peptides. It is expressed on lymphoblastic, Burkitt’s, and follicular germinal center lymphoma cells, immature B cells in adult bone marrow, and cells from patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML). CD10 is also present on breast myoepithelial cells, bile canaliculi, fibroblasts, and highly expressed on the brush border of kidney and gut epithelial cells.

CD10 functions as a neutral endopeptidase that cleaves peptides at the amino side of hydrophobic residues, inactivating several peptide hormones including glucagon, enkephalins, substance P, neurotensin, oxytocin, and bradykinin. It is a 100 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by a single gene (>45 kb). The 5′ untranslated region is alternatively spliced, producing four distinct mRNA transcripts without affecting the coding region. CD10 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia 43 and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
