Target Information
CHMP4B is a member of the chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body protein (CHMP) family. It is part of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) complex III (ESCRT-III), which functions in sorting endocytosed cell-surface receptors into multivesicular endosomes. The ESCRT machinery also plays a role in cytokinesis and in the budding of enveloped viruses such as HIV-1.
CHMP4 proteins interact with PDCD6IP (ALIX) and assemble into membrane-attached filaments that form circular scaffolds, promoting or stabilizing outward budding and generating luminal vesicles of multivesicular bodies.
