Product Specific Information
Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Goat Serum and purified and partially purified Green Fluorescent Protein (Aequorea victoria) Serum. No reaction was observed against Human, Mouse, and Rat Serum Proteins.
Target Information
The jellyfish Aequorea victoria contains Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP Tag) that emits light in the bioluminescence reaction of the animal. GFP is widely used as a reporter protein for gene expression in eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms and as a protein tag in cell culture and multicellular organisms. As a fusion tag, GFP is used to localize proteins, study their movement, and research the dynamics of subcellular compartments.
GFP is a 27 kDa monomeric protein that autocatalytically forms a fluorescent pigment. The wild-type protein absorbs blue light (maximally at 395 nm) and emits green light (peak emission 508 nm) without additional proteins, substrates, or cofactors. GFP fluorescence is stable, species-independent, and suitable for various applications, including monitoring gene expression, protein localization, protein–protein interactions (yeast two-hybrid system), and fluorescence energy transfer (FRET) experiments.
