Target Information
GSTZ1 belongs to the glutathione S-transferase (GSTs) super-family, which encodes multifunctional enzymes involved in detoxification of electrophilic molecules such as carcinogens, mutagens, and therapeutic drugs through conjugation with glutathione.
This enzyme plays a key role in the catabolism of phenylalanine and tyrosine. Defects in GSTZ1 may lead to metabolic disorders such as alkaptonuria, phenylketonuria, and tyrosinaemia. Multiple transcript variants encode different protein isoforms.
