MA5-13293 targets p21WAF1 in WB, FACS, ICC/IF, IHC (P), and IP applications and shows reactivity with Bovine, Human, and Rat samples.
This antibody detects a non-specific band at approximately 18 kDa in U87-MG and C6 cell lysates.
For staining of formalin-fixed tissues, boil tissue sections in 10 mM citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 10–20 minutes.
The immunogen is full length human recombinant p21 protein.

Target Information

Protein p21 is a tumor suppressor that inhibits Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) and is transcriptionally activated by p53.
It plays a critical role in cellular response to genotoxic stress and acts as a major transcriptional target of p53.
In the nucleus, p21 binds and inhibits CDK1 and CDK2, blocking transitions from G1 to S phase or G2 to mitosis after DNA damage, enabling DNA repair.
In the cytoplasm, p21 exhibits anti-apoptotic effects by binding and inhibiting caspase 3, ASK1, and JNK.
p21 shows dual functions in carcinogenesis—acting as both a tumor suppressor and an oncogene depending on context.
