Target Information
Catenins (α, β, and γ) are cytoplasmic proteins found in various developing and adult tissues. They bind directly or indirectly to the cytoplasmic tail domain of cell adhesion cadherins. The association of catenins with cadherins forms a complex linked to the actin filament network. These complexes are essential for mediating cell adhesion, transducing cell-cell contact signals, and may play a role in cell differentiation.
Alpha-Catenin (CAP102, 102 kDa), initially identified as an E-cadherin-associated protein, also interacts with N-cadherin and P-cadherin family members.
