Target Information
This potassium channel is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels allow potassium to flow more easily into the cell than out of it. Their voltage dependence is influenced by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the voltage range for channel opening shifts to more positive voltages. Inward rectification primarily results from blockage of outward current by internal magnesium. This receptor is essential in regulating the heartbeat.
