Target Information
Glyceraldehyde 3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a metabolic enzyme responsible for catalyzing one step in the glycolytic pathway — the reversible oxidative phosphorylation of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. GAPDH is highly expressed and essential for housekeeping functions; thus, its mRNA levels are often used as standards in expression studies. Specific antibodies to GAPDH are increasingly used to study protein expression levels. GAPDH interacts with various proteins, including amyloid precursor protein (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin (associated with Huntington’s disease). It also associates with actin and tubulin and may play roles in apoptosis regulation, migrating from the cytoplasm to the nucleus during apoptotic processes.
