Target Information
Dystrophin is the 427 kDa protein product of the DMD/BMD gene located on the X chromosome at position Xp21.
Western blotting and immunohistochemistry are established methods for detecting abnormalities of dystrophin expression in muscle biopsies.
Dystrophin abnormalities occur in nearly all patients with Duchenne or Becker muscular dystrophy, though genetic mutations are detectable in approximately 65% of cases.
