Specificity Comments:
Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are a family of homologous, cytoplasmic proteins expressed in a tissue-specific manner. They play a key role in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism by mediating fatty acid and hydrophobic ligand uptake, transport, and targeting. FABPs are found in various tissues including adipocytes (A-FABP), brain (B-FABP), epidermis (E-FABP), muscle and heart (H-FABP), intestine (I-FABP), liver (L-FABP), myelin (M-FABP), and testis (T-FABP).
The human A-FABP gene encodes a 132 amino acid protein and maps to chromosome 8q21.13. A-FABP protein constitutes approximately 1% of total cytosolic protein in human adipose tissue.
Target Information
FABP4 (Fatty Acid Binding Protein 4) is part of the FABP family, which transports fatty acids and lipids across cellular pathways. It is expressed in adipocytes, macrophages, monocyte-derived dendritic cells, and myoepithelial cells, delivering long-chain fatty acids and retinoic acid to nuclear receptors.
