Target Information
The Notch gene family encodes transmembrane proteins with multiple cysteine-rich EGF-like repeats in their extracellular region. Four Notch genes (Notch1, Notch2, Notch3, Notch4/Int-3) have been identified in mammals and are involved in the differentiation of the nervous system and other tissues.
The EGF-like proteins Delta and Serrate serve as ligands for Notch1.
Mature Notch proteins are heterodimeric receptors, formed by cleavage of Notch pre-proteins into an extracellular subunit (NEC) and a transmembrane subunit (Ntm) containing the intracellular region.
