Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. The core structure consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits — two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process in a non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
The PSMA4 gene encodes a member of the peptidase T1A family, forming part of the 20S core alpha subunit. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
