Target Information
Adipose tissue acts as an energy reserve and produces various physiologically important proteins including LPL, leptin, Acrp30, perilipin, and resistin.
Resistin (also known as Adipocyte Secreted Factor, ADSF, and FIZZ3) is secreted specifically by adipocytes. It is involved in paracrine signaling and may play a role in type 2 diabetes.
In obese, diabetic mice, serum resistin levels are elevated, antagonizing insulin action and inducing insulin resistance and glucose intolerance.
Resistin gene expression requires C/EBP alpha and is modulated by coactivators CBP and p300 through histone acetylation at the promoter region. PPAR gamma and RXR ligands downregulate resistin expression in adipocytes.
