Target Information
KCNK3 encodes a member of the potassium channel protein superfamily containing two pore-forming P domains. The gene product functions as an outwardly rectifying channel sensitive to extracellular pH and inhibited by acidification. Also referred to as an acid-sensitive potassium channel, it is activated by anesthetics such as halothane and isoflurane. Although three transcripts are detected in northern blots, sequence confirmation for transcript variants is not yet available.
