Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes about half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and plays a key role in maintaining extracellular fluid volume stability. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000 Da. It is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage to form proalbumin and finally mature albumin before secretion.
