Target Information

Poly(A)-binding proteins (PABPs) bind to the poly(A) tail at the 3′ end of most eukaryotic mRNAs.
PABPC4 (Poly(A)-binding protein 4), also known as inducible PABP or IPABP, is an activation-induced T-cell mRNA encoding protein.
Activation of T cells increases PABPC4 mRNA levels approximately fivefold. It contains four RNA-binding domains and a proline-rich C-terminus, primarily localized in the cytoplasm.

PABPC4 is suggested to regulate the stability of labile mRNA species in activated T cells and is also identified as APP1 (activated-platelet protein-1) expressed on thrombin-activated rabbit platelets.
It may play roles in protein translation regulation in platelets and megakaryocytes or in the stabilization of polyadenylates in platelet dense granules.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
